Thanksgiving Tournament Wolves

All:

Please see the below write-ups and pictures from our Mite A and Squirt B teams, who both brought home the Silver medal / 2nd place hardware at the recent Avon Thanksgiving Tournament. Congratulations to all the players and coaches.

SQUIRT B

The Wolves Squirt B team bounced back from a tough loss to open the Avon Thanksgiving Tournament to take second place this past weekend.

The title game was a rematch with the Western CT Colonials, which held off the Wolves in that first game, 5-4. West Hartford had only eight skaters in that game, but came into the championship with a full bench and the confidence that comes with two straight wins.

Unfortunately, the Wolves ran into a hot goalie who made over 35 saves to help his team survive 5-3. Western CT jumped out to a 1-0 lead, but the Wolves tied it before falling behind 4-1. West Hartford never gave up, but couldn’t solve the netminder.

In Game 1, the Wolves were led by two big goals by Paige Fehl and another two tallies from Jack Hanrahan. Jake Rossi stepped up in goal, making some big saves to keep the game close.

On Saturday, the team showed tremendous resilience to not only overcome frigid weather at 7 a.m. at Simsbury Farms, but also a desperate Simsbury team. With Akhil Chavali walling off the net, Liam Flemming showed some awesome playmaking and led the team to an impressive 5-1 win.

With the sun on the other side of the sky Saturday night, Parker Bastos shut down just about every opportunity and Brayden Wolfe had a hat trick as the Squirt B team cruised past Millbrook 7-1.

It was a great weekend of hockey with lots of teamwork and dedication showing on the ice, and we were all thankful for that!

MITE A

Our Mite A Wolves attended the 25th Annual Avon Thanksgiving Tournament at AOF rink this past weekend and competed in 4 x-ice games against Millbrook, Simsbury and Avon.

Once again, our Mite A Wolves came out of the gates hungry and represented WHYHA well by scoring the most goals in the round robin play (24) and ending up with an impressive +11 goal differential.   Led by stellar goaltending, great team play, and relentless forechecking, they earned a spot in the finals after tying a physical Millbrook squad 4-4, taking down local Simsbury rivals 18-5, and falling in a very close and competitive matchup against Avon, 4-2.

The Mite A finals game was a rematch against the undefeated Avon team and was as fun and exciting to watch as the first matchup.  Seeking redemption, our Wolves came out of the chute determined and took a commanding 3-0 lead after the first couple of shifts before ending the first half up 5-4.  Rattled from the first half, the Avon team regrouped and seemed to find their rhythm in the second half with great defense and a stellar performance by one of the best 8U players in the state.  The game ended with a score of 9-5 in favor of Avon, but our coaches and parents couldn't be prouder of the effort and composure that our Wolves showed this weekend.  They proudly earned the rights to the 2nd place trophy and silver medals.
