Congratulations to former WHYHA goaltender Liam Joyce

Congratulations to former WHYHA goaltender, Liam Joyce.

Liam currently plays for Shattuck-St Mary's in Faribault, Minnesota (home program for a young Sidney Crosby) and is a goaltender on the 2007 U14 team, which, as of this writing, is undefeated with an 18-0 record and ranked #1 in the United States in the 2007 AAA division.

Liam got his youth hockey start here in West Hartford with the Wolves, not as a goalie, but as a skater in the Squirt ranks. He filled in for a game as goalie (subbing for an injured teammate) and, over the next season, he went from splitting time in net to only playing goalie, registering one of the best seasons in recent memory as a Pee Wee goalie in 2017-18.

After 2 seasons with the CT Junior Huskies, Liam left home at the tender age of 14 and headed to MN to pursue his hockey and academic career at one of the perennial powerhouses in the hockey world, with former SSM rosters including the likes of Zach Parise, Derek Stepan, Drew Stafford, and Jonathan Toews.

Best of luck, Liam. Go Wolves!

CHC Update September 2, 2021

Please see the additional information provided this morning by CHC re: mask use. New information is in red.

Mask/Facial Covering Policy – Effective September 1, 2021

In consultation with the Connecticut Department of Public Health (DPH), and in conjunction with the Connecticut Rink Owners Association (CROA), and in conformance with Gov. Ned Lamont’s Executive Order No. 13A, the Connecticut Hockey Conference (CHC) hereby requires, effective September 1, 2021, that all individuals and participants inside facilities hosting CHC sanctioned events (including practices, scrimmages, and games) in the State of Connecticut, and inside facilities hosting events of CHC member programs must wear a mask or face covering at all times.

There is no option for mask exemption for any facility entrant.

For players and on-ice officials who are actually on the ice, a face shield that covers the entire face, including the nose and mouth, attaches to the player’s helmet, and is specifically manufactured for use with the player’s helmet, may be worn. This applies to the Game on CCM helmet mask and the Bauer Face Shield with Splash Guard attached.

Rink, Town, or Local Health Department policies or guidelines do not supersede this mandate.

“Individuals and participants” include all players, coaches, on-ice officials, off-ice officials (including scorekeepers and timekeepers), and spectators.

Failure to comply with this requirement may constitute a violation of Executive Order no. 13A and subject the violator to a fine, as provided in the executive order.
